Belfast 2 Sports Plus - Trainee Leaders & Coaches (WAITING LIST)

Sports Plus is a week of specialist sports coaching and team competitions for young people who are serious about sport and play regularly in a club or team. It's the perfect way for young people to improve in their sport, while exploring more about the Christian faith and what it means to be a Christian sports player.

Trainee Leaders/Coaches are individuals who have previously attended Sports Plus as part of the Development Squad or participated in another Christians in Sport leadership role/programme. The programme is designed for those playing sport regularly in a club or team; to help develop their leadership potential at Sports Plus (as future Team Leaders or Coaches) and help them to live out being a Christian in their sport.

There is a requirement for those in the Trainee Programme to be a Christian and they must agree with the Christians in Sport Statement of Faith and Leadership Practice document (click here).

Trainee Leader
Trainee Leaders will shadow a Team Leader through involvement with a team of young people and join with the Development Squad and Trainee Coaches for teaching elements of the programme. The programme will include:

• Biblical teaching and grounding in the basics of the Christian faith
• Training in how to be a Christian in sport
• Involvement with a team of young people of the same sex
  
• 1-1 discussions to enable you to think and apply the teaching and training
• Help on moving between life stages within Christians in Sport
• Serving within various elements of Sports Plus
  
  

Trainee Coach
Trainee Coaches will be linked to a Head Coach at first sport to learn and gain experience from the respective coaching teams and join with the Development Squad and Trainee Leaders for teaching elements of the programme. The programme will include:

• Biblical teaching and grounding in the basics of the Christian faith
• Training in how to be a Christian in sport
• Shadowing the coaching team during first sport to gain relevant experience
• 1-1 discussions to enable you to think and apply the teaching and training
• Help on moving between life stages within Christians in Sport
• Serving within various elements of Sports Plus

There is a requirement for those in the Trainee Programme to be a Christian and they must agree with the Christians in Sport Statement of Faith and Leadership Practice document (click here).

Sports Plus camps cost £180 for those taking part in the trainee programme with a reduced rate of £100 also available for those who wish to access the Bursary Fund. There is no criteria for accessing the reduced rate - simply select the rate you wish to pay above then scroll to the bottom of the page to begin your application.

You will not be required to pay anything on completion of the application form. Payment will be requested on confirmation of a place.

Once applications open there will be a 4-week window, from 1pm on Monday 12^th January to 1pm on Monday 9^th February, for forms to be completed. During this time we will begin to process applications, including contacting referees, however we will not start offering places until after this window. To enable the timely processing of applications all references must be received by 9am on Monday 16th February.

Places will be offered based on suitability, including information provided by referees, not on a first come first served basis.

Forms may still be submitted after the application window closes for any remaining places or to join the waiting list.

The application form will ask for general contact details, skills/experience, references and health information. The reference information required is outlined below. Please have this to hand before completing the application form.

• References: you must provide contact details of two referees who can verify your application and suitability for taking part in the Trainee programme at Sports Plus. One must be someone who knows you in a church setting (e.g minister / small group leader) and if you are a student this must be someone from your student church.

Please note referees cannot be related to you or be a Christians in Sport staff member/intern.

All applications will be subject to satisfactory references and enhanced level criminal records checks. Please note all Trainee applications must be completed six weeks prior to the start of the camp you are applying for.
